Troubleshooting Limit switch, Home switch and Position Confirm switch signals

In the world of CNC, accuracy and positioning are of utmost importance. This all begins with making sure your machine goes to the same "Home Position" each and every time you start it up. The use of micro switches with roller plungers have been the go to for this function as well as confirming positions and stopping an axis from literally running off the rails.

  1. Axis Position Confirm switch (Designed to confirm Servo Motor is at home position for an axis that moves to a given location to perform a given function and positions off of the servo encoder only, i.e. the Z axis moving to pick up a tool from the tool changer, the X axis moving to drop off a tool to the tool changer, etc.

  2. Home, or Reference deceleration switch (Designed to slow the approach of an axis to find Home position)

  3. Hard overtravel, or Limit switch (Designed to stop the axis from damaging ball screw or rails by traveling too far. When the switch is depressed it immediately puts the machine into emergency stop)
